Last month I wrote about how all people deserve to be served. Jesus came to save all people and along the way he served many people, many of whom in the eyes of the world did not deserve it. We know as Christians that is not the case because Christ came for everyone no matter their background. So now that we know that all people deserved to be served the next question is how is a Christian supposed to serve? Well, let’s talk about it.
It is very clear in The Bible we are to serve others. Jesus was the perfect model for how we should serve others. Paul sums it up perfectly in Philippians 2:3-5. He says “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus.” This means that if we are to model Christ, we must be humble in our service and serve with the best interest of others in our minds. We must not serve to make ourselves look better. To serve like Christ, we also must serve with love in our hearts as well. Every time Jesus served someone it was out of love. Whether it was performing miracles, teaching crowds, or dying on the cross everything he did was because of His love for us. So, when we serve, we must do it with love in our hearts, value the interests of others, and be humble.
So now that we know how to serve let’s put it into practice. What are some ways you can serve in your own lives? Well, there are many ways at Mt. Calvary and in the community. All you need to do is to look at what gifts God has given you and use those gifts to serve others. So, let’s go out and be a caring family sharing Christ and serve all people just like Jesus served all of us.
