In All Things Part 1

Held every three years since 1980, the LCMS Youth Gathering has provided thousands of youth the opportunity to come together in a community of God’s children. They are encouraged in their walk with Jesus and learn about the Christian faith. This July we will be taking 5 High Schoolers from our congregation to the gathering in Houston. These next two months I will be discussing the theme for the gathering and explaining what they will be learning about.

The theme for this gathering is “In All Things” and is based on Colossians 1:15-20.

Let’s start with some background on the book of Colossians. This book was written by Paul in the year 60 AD. This book like many other of Paul’s writings was a letter sent to the Colossian Church. The goal of this letter was to guide the congregation away from heresy and back into the truth about Jesus and His saving grace.

There are 5 talking points to the theme and this month we will look at the first two.

The first is that Christ is the Creator of all things and became a creature Himself, entering His own creation. As our Creator Jesus is Supreme over all things. Yet He lowered himself into a human body and suffered here on earth so that all of creation can be saved. This makes Him God and man.

The second talking point is Christ reconciles all things through His death and resurrection. Sin is a disease that plagues the world. It causes so much pain and suffering. Sin is something that we are born with but because of Christ we are broken free from this disease. There was nothing that we could have done to free ourselves. Everything depended on the resurrection. When Jesus freed us from sin, we were given the greatest gift of all, eternal life with Him in Heaven.

Please keep our group in your prayers as we travel to Houston in July. Thank you for all the support you have given to them.
