As followers of Jesus, we are called to be His ambassadors in the world, spreading His love through both our words and our actions. Our words hold immense power. Proverbs 18:21 reminds us that “death and life are in the power of the tongue.” As Christians, we are encouraged to use our words to build up, encourage, and speak truth. In Ephesians 4:29, Paul instructs us, “Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.” This means being mindful of our speech, choosing words that reflect Christ’s love and grace.

In practical terms, this can be as simple as offering a kind word to a friend in need, speaking truth in love when someone needs guidance, or sharing the Gospel message with those who haven’t heard it. We believe that the Word of God has the power to transform lives. Therefore, sharing Scripture and speaking about our faith can be powerful tools for spreading Jesus’ love.

While our words are important, our actions often speak louder. James 2:17 reminds us that “faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.” Our actions demonstrate the love of Jesus in tangible ways. Serving others, showing kindness, and acting with compassion are all ways we can reflect Jesus’ love.

Consider the many opportunities within our community to serve. Whether it’s volunteering at a local food bank, participating in a service project, or simply offering help to a neighbor, these acts of service are expressions of Christ’s love. As Lutherans, we recognize that our good works do not earn us salvation—this is a gift of grace through faith. However, our good works are a response to the grace we have received, a way to live out our faith and share God’s love with others.

Spreading the love of Jesus involves integrating our faith into every aspect of our lives. This means embodying Christian values in our homes, workplaces, and communities. It means forgiving as we have been forgiven, loving our enemies, and seeking peace.

In Colossians 3:12-14, Paul encourages us to “put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all this put-on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.” These qualities should be evident in how we live and interact with others.

In every conversation and every act of kindness, we can reflect Jesus’ love. By being intentional with our words and actions, we can make a difference in the lives of those around us. Let us commit to being ambassadors of Christ’s love, spreading His grace and truth wherever we go.
