In a world that praises self-sufficiency and independence, the call to surrender to the will of God can seem countercultural. Yet, as followers of Christ we are invited into a deeper, more trusting relationship with our God. It is one marked by humble surrender and wholehearted submission. In our walk of faith, surrender is not an admission of defeat rather, it is a courageous affirmation that God's love and wisdom are greater than our own understanding.
Scripture reminds us, “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (James 4:7). This call to submission is at the heart of our Christian living. When we relinquish our need to control every facet of our lives, we open our hearts to God’s gracious plan. Think of surrender as a daily act of faith—a willingness to trust that God, who knows every detail of our lives, has a divine plan that is far better than anything we could imagine for ourselves. It calls us to be still, listen, and allow the Holy Spirit to guide our every step.
Embracing surrender requires both self-reflection and action. In practical terms, what does it look like to yield to God’s will in our everyday lives? It might mean setting aside time each day for prayer and Bible study, intentionally pausing amidst a hectic schedule to listen for God’s gentle whisper or seeking counsel and fellowship with trusted friends and mentors within our community. Whether you are facing challenges at work, decisions in family life, or uncertainties in your spiritual journey, surrendering to God’s guidance is an ongoing invitation to trust that every moment can be transformed by His grace. As we embrace this posture of openness, we often discover that our fears and anxieties give way to a remarkable sense of peace and purpose.
Surrender is also a communal journey. Within our church, we support one another to become more faithfully responsive to God’s call. When we embrace our vulnerability and share our struggles with one another, we learn together what it means to serve wholeheartedly. The act of surrendering is not a solitary venture—it resonates throughout our congregation, encouraging us all to live lives marked by humility, gratitude, and obedience. Let us use opportunities such as our weekly Bible studies, fellowship meals, and community outreach projects as moments to practice surrender and experience God’s transformative love.
Embracing the will of God means trusting that His plans for us are founded on perfect love and infinite wisdom. When we set aside our personal ambitions in favor of a life surrendered to Him, we step into a reality where grace overcomes our limitations, and the Holy Spirit can work freely in and through us. May this season be a time for each of us to renew our commitment to surrender, seeking out moments of quiet reflection and bold obedience. Let our lives proclaim that in surrendering to God’s will, we receive not only His guidance but also the abundant peace that surpasses all understanding.
In Christ's Service,
Aaron Finkel, DCE
